Washington Commanders manage to lose due to incomprehensible coaching and playing errors, and by dubious penalties.

Dan Quinn and Jalen Daniels discuss Pee Wee Herman reruns or something
For almost 30 years watching the Washington Commanders, (nee Redskins) play football has been almost constantly a painful process. The team has found many ways to lose winnable games in the fourth quarter over that span, cursed as they have been with a meddling idiot for an owner and lousy quarterbacks.
Yesterday was the latest installment in this sad saga. Up by 14 points midway through the 4th quarter, playing a NY Giants/Refs team with a quarterback who has failed dozens of opportunities with multiple teams, the coach and the players decided to quit playing defense. Having stifled Jameis (3 interceptions per game minimum) Winston for three quarters, all of a sudden they gave up 2 touchdowns in 5 minutes of playing time. The Commanders defensive players seemed to have had a collective brain cramp and stopped playing.
Quinn directed the team to go into the dreaded prevent defense, wherein teams with a lead start giving up 20 yard pass plays to prevent long touch down passes, and give up several touchdowns in the process.
Meanwhile, the referees (continuining the infamy of their bookie directed travesty in London the week before) called not one, two, but THREE dubious pass interference calls that helped the Giants/Refs score those two touchdowns. That tied the game 27-27.
On to overtime. Both teams vied for the title of least competent offense for most of the overtime period. The Giants/Refs got the ball down to the Washington 30, then coughed up a fumble. Showing a far more competent offensive series than fans had any reason to expect, the Commanders got the ball on the Giants/Refs 20 with 30 seconds to go.
Easy field goal, game over right? A rare Commanders victory!
Nooooope. Inexplicably, Jaylen Daniels ran a play rather than spiking the ball to enable the field goal team to get on the field. Time ran out, and the Commanders lost (I say managing a tie after such boneheaded play counts as a loss) to the Giants/Refs team.
Its enough to turn anyone into a Cowboys fan. Wait, they managed to lose in an equivalently idiotic way earlier. Sigh…..
