The Rip-Movie Review

6 Stars.

Woke Nonsense: None

The Rip is a Netflix flick starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. They are cops working in a department that is rotten with corruption. They don’t know who in the department they can trust, in the midst of the murder of their boss and rumors of bribes from drug dealers. (The Rip refers to finding and confiscating drug MONEY, not the drugs themselves.)

The story itself is a slightly creative take on the “cops surrounded by murderous gangs in a fort” flick. There are many movies made on this theme. The first one I remember is Assault on Precinct 13. Its success resulted in many others with a similar theme.

Most of the action takes place in a cartel safe house that is supposed to have hidden drug money in it. How much is not certain. Matt Damon is the lead cop in drug enforcement that goes to check up on the anonymous tip about the Rip. Damon is his good friend and slightly junior partner. The house is the “fort” in this flick.

The creative take involves the mystery as to WHO are the dirty cops. Is it one of the two partners, Damon or Affleck? Is it the FBI? Other cops? Space Force? Our intrepid, maybe or maybe not honest cops determine that the cartel that hid the money in the house is not out to kill them. You see, the sum involved is just a write off to them. So its the dirty cops for sure.

They covered a major plot hole with the explanation as to why they could not just take the cash and run to safety. I will leave that for you to find out how.

So the movie is not original, but so what? Most aren’t. The question is, how interesting are the tweaks to the plot. How good is the action? The dialog? The actors? In this case, I am positive on all of these. We have two proven actors with charisma to carry a flick all by themselves in Damon and Affleck. The supporting cast is capable.

I like the plot twists, which kept me interested for the entire movie. And the twists are sufficiently twisty that you won’t guess who dunnit. Well, somewhat mysterious. Good action with some mayhem and car chases with guns blazing .

So, watch this movie. Well worth the time.
