Tarriffs Not Driving Bankruptcies, Despite what the ComPost says

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/12/27/corporate-bankruptcies-economy/
The Post is constantly trying to find ways to condemn some action that the Trump administration has taken. Today it concerns corporate bankruptcies in the US in 2025, which the local rag says has been particularly hard on retail importers and manufacturers.
So thanks to the internet, I downloaded the major companies that repaired to the dustbin of business history last year. Of the 99 cited, 12 were manufacturers. None you could have named offhand. Here they are:
Felt & Fat, LLC
Wolfspeed
Royal Paper
Ascend Performance Materials
Northvolt KTRV Heritage Coal & Natural Resources, LLC
FMI Aerostructures
Nikola Corporation
Falcon Lifts
LoneStar Fiberglass Components
IM3NY
Not exactly leading industrial companies, are they?
On the other hand, there were 17 retailers who either closed their doors forever or are in reorganization. JC Penny and Claires have been going out of business for longer than your local oriental carpet specialist. JoAnnes fabrics, ditto. Tariffs didn’t get them; changing consumer tastes, outdated formats, and Amazon likely did. You know ANYONE who makes their own clothes anymore? Do tweens even GO to malls anymore?
The leading cause of bankruptcies would appear to be the ongoing retrenchment of the retail industry, brought on the the INTERNET. Which, though the ComPost would have you believe it was due to Trump, predated his election by a couple of decades. Remember Sears, KMart, Woolworth, Toys R Us, Circuit City, Borders? Gone, but not due to tariffs.
Once again, the limited research needed to develop this blog took me about half an hour. I did not have TDS driving my research, but real intellectual curiosity. A quality conspicuously absent in the local leftist Trump hating bag of calumny.
Here is the link to my list of companies, in case you want to challenge my assertions and research. Note that it took ONE search on google to find this list. Less than 2 minutes. Maybe the Compost could try doing similary searches someday.
