Movie Review Blitz. 4/10 Stars. Woke Nonsense-Lots

I know, I know. I’m too negative. I find too many faults in movies. I deny this. The fault is with the movie industry, which keeps cranking out losers and turkeys (seasonal insult).

I actually paid to see this boring, unoriginal, confusing movie. I might be emotionally more supportive if it had been free. Nah, my time is worth something. This movie is not.

The movie stars Soirse Ronan as Rita, and Elliott Heffernan as her 12 year old son George. There are hordes of others who make an appearance, none to any particular effect or impact. I did not recognize any of the names or faces.

The movie is set during WWII, during the Blitz. The star is Ronan, a self obsessed single mother with a biracial son. What happened to the husband, we aren’t told. She enjoys going to jazz bars with a black clientele. So we understand how she wound up with a biracial son. And we see are alerted to the woke nature of the subplot woven throughout.

The Germans are bombing London, people are getting killed, so thousands of children were sent to live in the country, so this is based on history. Rita has put George on a train to get out of danger, along with other kids. Immediately his biracial status leads to some not very threatening insults, alerting us to the fact the main subplot here is racism. So thats a new element in the movies, right? Yawn.

For reasons not explained George decides to get off the train and travel home. With no money or clothes. Or idea how to get there. He has adventures along the way. None of these are new, you have seen all of these before many times. He saves a bunch of people caught in a flood in the underground. Evoking the scene in Atonement.

So the plot is the Incredible Journey, without pets. And a biracial kid gets picked on a little. And there are bombs going off all around the kids home in London. He is in a rush to return to that.

There are so many plot holes, it gives swiss cheese a solid reputation. The Heffernan kid never smiles, shows any emotion, or has any memorable lines.

Trust me, you have seen every scene in this movie, will recognize every plot point, and be bored silly. If you have not seen many movies this might be original enough to entertain, but not for twenty bucks.

For a movie set during the Blitz that I DO recommend, watch Hope and Glory . Its pretty good. And probably free on Prime or Hulu.
