Move Review-The Fall Guy 8 Stars

Woke Nonsense: none

Gosling channelling Indian Jones. One of many homages.

This is the kind of movie that Hollywood (nickname:commie woke central) used to make, an action comedy, with a mystery wrapped in. And it has plenty of both comedy and action. And FUN!

Lately at the movies we have been served boring, preachy, woke, desultroy crap. This movie heralds the return to actual entertainment, I think. Please hollywood, please.

The movie stars Ryan Gosling, one of my favorite actors. And Emily Blunt, (meh), Anthony Taylor Johnson, and Hannah Waddington. And tons and tons of stunt guys and gals.

The stunts are the big story here. Gosling plays Colt Seavers (note 80’s era cool action star name). He is a stunt guy that gets seriously injured doing a stunt. And decides to drop out of the biz and mope for a mercifully short time. Then he is called back to action by Waddington. He is funny, believable, and for you gals, often shirtless and hunky. And funny. Oh, and has no wimpy vulnerability characteristics; he could play Indiana Jones if they ever make a sequel (heaven forbid). No more big nosed Adam Driver PLEASE.

Blunt stars as his on/off girl friend, whom he loves but dumped to go and mope as a valet. She is the rookie director of a major sci fi action movie, her first time in such a role. In a BIG BUDGET film. Right. She unfortunately is given a forgettable role, as a nebbish/wimp under the thumb of the delightfully nasty Waddington, (the team owner in Ted Lasso). For some reason Blunt, a sexy woman, is dressed in Kamala-esqe pantsuits, deliberately downplaying any sexual attraction that might have livened up the show. Why? She’s got legs to spare.

Blunt Being Sexy. Not a scene from the Fall Guy

Blunt being unsexy for an entire movie. Yawn.

Gosling gets called back by Waddington to be the be the main stunt guy on Blunt’s rookie directorial assignment. A big budget sci fi movie. For which she seems completely unqualified to direct. And which is one of the many plot holes. Oh well. Waddington is fun as a manipulator extraordinaire here.

Blunt has had her feelings hurt, and is not glad to see Colt/Gosling. Anyone doubt where this is going? Her one good scene sets up the rapprochment. Even that is blah.

Now, the movie has major flaws. Serious plot holes. So what? Most movies do. These do not get in the way of a highly enjoyable couple of hours, watching Gosling wise cracking around, he and his doubles doing incredible stunts, (I liked the dumpster ride). I watched at home for six bucks on Prime. You could spend six bucks on a pumpkin latte, this is a much better use of your wallet trust me. Even worth spending 20 bucks at the theatre, I bet. See the movie.

Guy Viewer Tip: See Gosling sparkle in Crazy Stupid Love. Being a real guy. So funny. And so NOT a blah Beta male dweeb. Refreshing and funny. Steve Carrell also excellent. 8 stars
