Movie Review Greyhound

Rating: 9 stars out of 10. Woke Nonsense: None at all.

This is the kind of movie that Hollywood used to make. Compelling stories, taut story telling, exciting action. So happy to see movie making excellence still exists in the sea of dreck that enables me to avoid going to theaters.

This is a WW2 action movie starring Tom Hanks, a personal favorite of mine. He delivers his usual outstanding performance as a Destroyer Task Force commander guiding supply and troop ships thru the treacherous waters of the Atlantic, where murderous German submarines lurk.

The movie does an outstanding job of portraying the often difficult decisions that must be made by leaders in war. Wrong decisions result in lots of dead people. Yet often they must be made with no time for thought and incomplete or inaccurate information.

The focus here is on Hanks, constantly having such life and death decisions thrust on him. Everyone is looking at him. Its his first time in command, and Hanks acting chops enable him to show his vulnerability as a new commander. His judgement is questioned by his 2nd officer. Its cold and rainy. And torpedoes keep getting shot at him and the men under his command.

Wow! is all I can say. The tension is thick. You almost feel you are there, in Hanks’ shoes.
There is nothing more need to be said here. A great movie, see it. On Apple Plus. (pay the ten bucks for a months’ worth just for this movie.)
