Obnoxious woke content-tons

Most who saw the original season of True Detective, with Matthew McConaughy and Woody Harrelson (two of the best actors in entertainment) loved it. Lots of action, gratuitous sex, murder and mayhem. Great action, excellent cast.

Season 2 was pretty good, I liked it but it was disappointing just because it didn’t measure up. Season 3 was unwatchable.

I was hoping that season 4 would get us back on track, McConaughy is the exec producer and we have a personal favorite, Jodie Foster, as the True Detective. Alas, this show is a stinker.

Set in Alaska, almost all of the characters are people you would hate, including Foster. She’s kind of a slut, drinks too much, and was consigned to a rural frozen outpost because she is an asshole. She has a step daughter who is likewise an unlikeable jerk. The Deputy, payed by Kali Reis, is a native american who is not only obnoxious but incompetent in her job.

Our unlikable sleuths battle interfering superiors back at HQ (a totally new trope!) as they investigate multiple gruesome murders at a local science lab. As usual, a nefarious meanie mining company is up to skulduggery.

The plot drags along as the characters alternately screw one another or scream invectives. When someone comes in the room as you watch and ask “what is happening?” it is safe to say, “not much.”

Atheists will love this show, as much dialog is dedicated to mocking Christians, prayer, etc. I case you somehow missed the point, John Hawkes sings a song whose lyrics include “There is No God, no heaven, no Hell.” So there you are, you worthless christian! You are clearly stupid! All hail believing in-nothing at all!

There you have it. I only watched to the end because I wanted to dis this mess in a review. For those who have not seen them, watch the 1st 2 seasons instead. I am also kind of into The Warrior on Netflix. Notably, you will like the main characters, there is action, and much gratuitous sex. Give it a try.
